Bowel cancer rates doubles for men

27 July 2011

Chris Evans went for a colonoscopy yesterday to check for the early signs of bowel cancer and to have several pre-cancerous growths removed.  On today's Radio 2 Breakfast Show, he urged all men to get themselves checked.  "Please if you or anyone you know may have any worries down below, get them checked as soon as poss.  This type of enemy is one hundred per cent beatable - providing you don't give it a chance to fire the first shot".

Lifescan offers all men and women aged 45 and over the opportunity of checking for any early signs of pre-cancerous growths in the bowel by using advanced diagnostic methods.  The Colon Check uses CT imaging technology to undertake a 'virtual colonoscopy' and since 2003 have helped over 63,000 people seek early diagnosis or peace of mind about this and other illnesses.

Cancer Research UK reported today that bowel cancer rates for both men and women have risen since the 1970s.  For women the risk has risend to one in 19, from one in 26.  Early diagnosis as supported by Chris Evans is recognised by the UK charities and healthcare professionals as key in fighting bowel cancer.
