Colon Check £450

The ideal CT health check for those with concerns about their colon (large bowel) in particular those over the age of 45 or with a family history of colon cancer. In the western world, colon cancer is on the increase but it is a very treatable disease when caught at an early stage before symptoms are evident.  This exceptional and very specialised CT health check has been a breakthrough in the early diagnosis of colon cancer, including pre-cancerous growths or polyps as small as the size of a pea. Lifescan is the leading independent provider of this specific type of CT scan and has been responsible for training and developing a team of highly skilled Consultant Radiologists in this specialised area.

Includes:

Virtual colonoscopy – for many years the only way of looking at the colon (large bowel) was to undergo a surgical procedure known as a colonoscopy.  With the advances in CT scanning technology it has now become possible to gain all the images previously achieved from a colonoscopy but without the need for sedation or the use of an optical surgical scope (camera).  The virtual colonoscopy captures hundreds of exceptionally detailed images from outside the body.  The images build up a complete picture of the colon, which enables the Consultant Radiologist to undertake a ‘fly through’ of the entire colon allowing for visualisation of any small polyps or changes in the bowel such as diverticular disease.

The other key advantage of the virtual colonoscopy is the ability to gain images of the other abdominal organs such as the liver, kidneys, pancreas, gallbladder and spleen.  In recent studies it is this additional information, which has proved successful in the detection of other diseases and abnormalities, in particular kidney cancer.

Min age: 45+

Note: The Colon Check involves the need to prepare the bowel for the virtual colonoscopy.  This will mean following a change in your diet for two days before your appointment and taking a laxative.  All details relating to this will be discussed with you at the time of booking your appointment.
