Mole Checks

Lifescan also offers a specific service for those worried about moles and the risk of skin cancers. Using a unique infrared assessment technology Lifescan is able to provide a first stage assessment service that in many cases can eliminate the need for unnecessary biopsies.

Lots of people have moles and for many these are all completely harmless, however around 65,000 new cases of skin cancers are recorded each year in the UK.

Checking your skin for moles is important as any changes can be significant and catching this early could be very important.

Lifescan offers a unique assessment technology that checks not only the surface of the mole but also under the mole to a depth of 2mm. Checking below the surface of the mole can often avoid unnecessary biopsies of harmless moles.

Lifescan offers first stage mole assessment using DERMETRICS ®, a powerful skin imaging platform with two specialist skin cancer applications MoleView and MoleManager.

MoleView uses SIAscopy ® , a unique infrared scanning technology that captures images of the various components of the skin. After a full visual examination to establish which moles may be of concern, the screening technician will take a scan (using the handheld imaging system) . The scanning process is quick, non-invasive and completely painless.

It is usually possible to give you a verbal result on the day of your appointment. This is then followed up by your written report and a copy of the images taken. All images are reviewed by a Consultant Surgeon prior to any reports being sent out.

Each appointment takes approximately 30 minutes and costs £125. This includes your visual examination, SIAscopy of any suspicious moles and a full written personal report.

This service is currently available at all our centres.
